Hey there. So…you’ve come to my About page…

To be honest, I hate writing about myself, since most of the time I don’t think I’m anything special. I’d much rather write about other people and worlds, or gods. But, people assure me that I actually am interesting, so I’ll do my best.

I grew up in the state of New Hampshire in the US. For those of you who have been to New Hampshire, it probably explains a lot about me. New Hampshire is a weird little state, and most of us New Hampshire-ites will say the same.

After graduating high school in 1994, I went to Elmira College in upstate NY to get a degree in Biochemistry. After graduating from there in 1998, I moved to the Boston area to begin my 13 year career in the biotech industry, much to the chagrin of other folks who were hoping I’d become a Nobel prize winning biochemist doing some sort of research. The real reason I didn’t go for a higher degree at the time was that I was pretty much burnt out with school and just wanted to get on with my life.

So I did. I worked as a lab tech in a few different companies in the New England area. I joined an Alexandrian Witchcraft coven and earned my Second Degree in that tradition. I then moved to Rhode Island (which was initially a Really Bad Idea), and proceeded to get fired from my job in 2004. (Long story– TL;DR: Wiccan Coven Gone Cult)

I was pretty much done with the East Coast by then, so a good friend of mine encouraged me to move to the San Francisco Bay Area. He flew out Rhode Island in the beginning of January 2005 to drive cross-country with me, lesbian style, to Oakland, CA. (And by lesbian style, I mean I had a U-Haul trailer with all my stuff, and I was moving in with said friend as a roommate. The roommate part was true, since my friend is a VERY gay man.)

A lot of stuff I did before I met my wife in 2009 is probably best left to my tell all memoir (which I probably won’t write). Let’s just say, I was a queer, kinky, chick in California and lived that lifestyle for a time. Until, after several rounds of the Lesbian Mating Dance, I got married to The Awesome Wife in 2010, who is a for-reals rocket scientist (now you know where I get my space information from!).

In 2011, I realized that I was kind of done (and bored) with biotech. I mean, I was a pretty good lab tech, but I felt I would be a much better priest in a more official capacity. So I quit my job and went into seminary at Pacific School of Religion. I graduated with my Masters of Divinity in 2014. Sounds a little crazy, but it was an intense and awesome 3 years. And yes, I’m ordained, twice over: I’m an ordained priest in my Wiccan tradition, and an ordained Christian pastor through the Progressive Christian Alliance. Feel free to ask me about it if you’re curious.

Since graduating with my Masters, I’ve done a number of things: I did a podcast for a while. Started in person and online churches for a while. Then the Wife and I moved to Chicago for a forgettable year before we moved to Switzerland.

Moving to Europe was a dream come true, since I’ve always wanted to live overseas, even if one of the biggest reasons for leaving was because there was a batshit orange turd in the White House, whose party had decided to erase transgender people, like My Wife, among other things. *sigh*

COVID hit (Are you vaccinated yet?) in 2020 and I realized that the biggest thing I ever really wanted to do was write full time. I was inspired, at first, to write some fan fiction. So I started with this Deep Space 9 short, but when the Wife read it she said, “You know, that would make an interesting original story.”

She was right, and that’s how I started writing Unity. At first I started writing it because I wanted to see if I could actually write a full length novel. I soon realized, however, that I was really writing for my trans wife and my queer and trans friends. I wanted to write the scifi that they should have all had growing up. Now I’m more than 4 novels in, and writing even more.

I also finally got around to finishing my spiritual novella called The Four Keys. I may like my scifi, but the priest in me couldn’t resist writing a spiritual work!

We lived in Switzerland for 5 years, and it was lovely, but then realized it was time for us to move on. Now we’ve bought a house in a small town in Ireland, and I should be joining my Wife there in Autumn of 2024. 

I do a lot of other things besides writing, too: I like fountain pens and writing snail mail letters. I’m a fiber artist and spin my own yarn and weave. I like to do open water swimming when I can, and travel when there isn’t a pandemic. I’m also a home cook and baker. I have lots of tech gadgets, paper notebooks, gel nail polish, and cookware.

Babylon 5, Star Wars, and Star Trek are my major fandoms and influences, but there are so many that I absolutely love. Except one. That fandom is now dead to me. (For obvious reasons.)

And lastly, I’m bald. I’ve shaved my head off and on since my 20’s, and in 2019 I decided to just leave it that way. Now, though, I have an electric shaver (gadget geek, right?), which makes me insanely happy and looking spiffy.
